Refusing To Admit A Police Constable
On Wednesday, Edward cockshott, the landlord of the Cotton Tree Inn, was charged with refusing to admit P.C. Blackledge, on Saturday night, a little before twelve o'clock. It appears the police-constable was attracted to the house by some disturbance, and on coming to the door found it locked. He knocked, but was answered by the landlord's voice that he would neither admit policemen nor anyone else. It seems that some disturbance had arisen in the company, and the landlord got the two out who were going to fight, and, in order to prevent any further row, locked the doors so as to prevent those inside from taking any part in the strife outside. - The Bench held that he had probably done the best he could to keep the "shindy" down, but cautioned him not to refuse admittance to a police-constable again. - Dismissed.
