A Girl Lost On Pendle Hill

On the afternoon of Sunday last, a party of four young men started from Clitheroe for a ramble on Pendle Hill. When they arrived at the top they were surprised at seeing a girl, apparently about twelve years of age, running towards them, her eyes red with weeping. In answer to their enquiries she stated that her mother and some friends had brought her on the hill with them the previous day, and that she had strayed from them and got lost; that she had passed the night on the summit, and had not seen any person from losing her friends till seeing them, and that she came from near Burnley. They set her in the road to Sabden, and then proceeded on their way. when they reached the highest part of the hill, they met the mother seeking her lost child. They immediately set her mind at rest by acquainting her with what they had done, and sent her on her way rejoicing.

Me too.
Can't help thinking that these lads were a bit lacking in chivalry! Wouldn't you think that at least one of them would 'feel' for the scared and tired child and walk with her towards home?
