Breach of the Burnley Improvement Act
On Monday, William Lupton, fireman for Messrs. R. and A. Clegg was charged by superintendent Carswell, with having thrown ashes into the river Brun. Richard Clegg, fireman for Mr. Fielding was charged with a similar offence. As these were the first offences that had come under the notice of the magistrates, the parties were discharged on payment of costs. The penalty for the offence is any sum not exceeding 40s.
