Another Death From The Same Cause
An inquest was held on Monday last, at the Deerplay Inn, in Cliviger, on the body of James Simpson, aged 11 years. The deceased, who resided with his grandfather, took a horse from the stable to the pump to give him some water. He led the horse by a halter, and on returning from the pump, he was seen by his grandmother passing the window, leading the horse; but, on her going out shortly afterwards she found him lying on the ground on his face. There was a cut on the right side of the head, from which blood was flowing. The bone was crushed in. It appeared that the horse threw up his head and plucked the end of the halter out of his hand. The deceased then hissed at the horse, and he threw up his heels, and hit the deceased. He never spoke afterwards, and he died on Saturday morning. The horse had never been known to kick before. Verdict accordingly with a deodend upon the horse.
