Preston Guardian Saturday 30 April 1853 Inquest On Thursday last an inquest was held at the Ship Inn, Lane Bridge, before John Hargreaves, Esq., over the body of Elizabeth Waterworth, a child of eight weeks old, which had been found dead in bed on Sunday morning last. From the evidence adduced by the mother the child was quite well and healthy the night previous, and also at daybreak on the Sunday morning; but when she awoke at about seven o'clock in the morning, she found the child dead. At the instigation of Mr. C. Owen, the foreman of the jury, Dr. Brown was set for to examine the child and to give evidence before the jury, in which examination Dr. Brown stated that he had examined the body, and that there were no marks of violence discoverable upon the body, nor anything to suppose the child had not died a natural death. A verdict was given that the child had died by the visitation of God. |
