Saturday 12 November 1864

A burglary was committed at the shop of Mr. Pollard, dealer in new and second hand clothes, Chancery-street, on Tuesday morning. Mr. Pollard and family retired to rest about eleven o'clock on Monday night, and heard nothing beyond a passing knock at the door, till they were knocked up at twenty minutes past six o'clock in the morning. He then found the window open and a quantity of goods stolen from it. He had neglected to put the bolt on the window-shutter when closing it the night before, and the thief r thieves had opened the shutter, broken a square in front of the hasp that fastened the window, and thus effected an entrance. Five pairs of cloth trousers, one pair of fustian trousers, two pairs of new shoes, three pairs of elastic boots, twelve shirts, one cloth vest, two brown holland aprons, and four mufflers were stolen.
