Improved System of Hand-Loom Weaving
In six days, between the 20th and 25th October, inclusive, John Clegg, a weaver in the employ of Mr. H. Holroyd, of Guy syke, near Colne, wove, in what is called the double dandy-loom, invented by Mr. Holroyd's manager, 18 cuts of 2ds 74's, measuring 30 yards each; his wages, at 2s. 1 1/2d. per cut, amounting to £1 18s. 3d. clear of any deduction. The distance the shuttles travelled in weaving the above was upwards of 1049 miles, and the time the man was employed was 86 hours.
