Singular Tencity of Animal Life

On Good Friday, a fine turkey, belonging to Mr. Thomas Woodhead, of Burnley Old Mill, was found to be missing, and up to Thursday week had not since been seen or heard of. During that day, on some damage happening to the machinery of the waterwheel, a man descended into the wheelrace, and, much to his surprise, he found the turkey still alive. From its position it was totally unable to extricate itself or to procure any food, and must have remained in this state for the long period of 42 days! When lost, its weight could not be less than 12lbs., but on its release it was found to weigh only 3 1/2lbs.
