Child Desertion

On the evening of last Thursday week, between the hours of nine and ten o'clock, the attention of the family of Mr. Richard Lord, Turf-moor, was directed to the cries of a child. On opening the door, they found that a young child, in a very exhausted state, form cold, had been left on the door step, and no one about to whom it could belong. On making enquiry, it was found that a man and woman, of the tramping class, and having a child with them, had been observed near the door of a neighbour, and from their suspicious movements, there is little doubt, that they are the guilty parties. After restoring the child to warmth and comfort, it was handed over to the town's authorities, who have placed it out to nurse. No trace has yet been found of it's un-natural parents.
