Old people in Marsden in 1802

By the kindness of Mr. W. Ecroyd, junior, we are enabled to publish the following list of aged inhabitants of Marsden which was compiled by the late Mr. John Ecroyd in April, 1802:- John Robertshaw, aged 71 years; Jennett Robertshaw, 73; James Smith, 73 (died in May, 1805); Alice Ridehalgh, 67; John Duerden, 72; William Whalley, 78 (died in March, 1803); George Brookes, 67; Joshua Waterhouse, 85 (died on the 26th December, 1802); Ann Fielden, 68; an old man at the Raw (on Marsden Height); John Ecroyd, 73; Thomasina Roberts, 78 (died on the 5th December, 1804); Grace Catlow, 80; John Heap,79, (died on 29th July, 1804); Peggy Heap, 81; William Thornton, 80; John Cock, 75; Ellen Cock, 75; Nanny Norcross, 73; Susan Thornton, 65; Margaret Topper, 80; William Varley, 75; Betty Varley, 69; Richard Varley, 69; James Topper, 70; Margaret Topper, 70; George Walton and Mary Walton, age not given; John Hoyle, Scarrs, 64, and his wife, 77; Mary Catlow, Hollin Bank, 71; Joseph Watson, 79 (died 10th January, 1807); George Whalley, 71; Mary Whalley, age not given; Catherine Clegg, 68; Betty Riley, 69; an old woman at B. Fielden Taylor, Walferden (Walverden); Old Ann at James Parkins, 69; Sarah Lathom, 70; Ruth Greenwood, 70; Mary Hartley, Clay, 79;Richard Baron, 68; SarahBaron, 74; Wm. Hartley, Clough, 85 (died 21st September, 1803); his wife, age not given; George Brooks, 67; Peter Petty, 67.
