Post subject: | White House, Swinden |
Burnley Express Saturday 12 April 1884 White House, Swinden We have pleasure in drawing public attention to the fact that Mr. Tattersall Wilkinson, a gentleman well known in this neighbourhood for his thorough knowledge of the antiquities and folkore of the district, has entered upon the tenancy of the above little suburban retreat, and where he has opened what we may term a restaurant for the purpose of supplying edibles and non-intoxicant beverages to those visitors who, during the summer months, may chance to visit this favoured region. Those who wish to perambulate the adjoining moor can also be accommodated with field glasses at a low figure. To those too engaged in piscatorial pursuits in that neighbourhood, the above hostelry will prove a welcome place where they may sit after they have borne the heat and burden of the day, and satisfy their appetites by a plentiful of ham and eggs, and at the same time enjoy the conversation of a gentleman so well versed in local knowldge as Mr. Wilkinson. |
