Nothing to do with Lancashire, but perhaps of general interest are the burials of Sir Lionel Lyde and his wife in the new church at Ayot St Lawrence in Hertfordshire.
The village of Ayot St Lawrence has two churches. The old one, in the centre of the village, was partially demolished in 1775, reputedly because it was obstructing the view from Sir Lionel Lyde's new home at Ayot House, which still stands across the park in front of the Palladian church (and behind the ruined church). The local villagers complained to the Bishop (then of Lincoln) and any such forced demolition was halted.
The new St Lawrence church was designed in a neo-classical style by Nicholas Revett and features a Palladian-style frontage with Doric columns. It was built in 1778 at the request of Sir Lionel, who lies buried under one of the pavilions leading out from the church. At the opposite end his wife lies buried under a similar portico: it is reputed that Sir Lionel did not get on well with his wife and decreed that:
"what the Church united in life, it should keep separate in death"!
