Dogs save life of boy lost on moor
From Our Correspondent
Nelson Nov. 10

Two dogs - a police dog and the boy's own mongrel pet Lady-today saved William Fraser, aged 7. after he collapsed from cold and exhaustion on the moors outside Colne, Lancashire, while on a walk with a friend.
A police search began when the boy was reported missing. Police dog Sabre found him with the sleet and rain lashing down. Lady then helped to save his life by lying across him to keep him warm.
William of Hagg Street, Colne, was taken unconscious and in a critical condition to Burnley Victoria Hospital, where he was revived by heart massage. The boy was taken to Marsden Hospital, near Nelson, where his condition was satisfactory last night.
William's friend Tony Edmondson, of Atkinson Street, Colne, sounded the alarm after struggling back into town, wet through and suffering from exposure. Tony was taken to hospital but later discharged.
Mrs. Fraser, William's mother, said: "But for the police dog picking up the scent so quickly my son might now be dead. Lady also did a wonderfully loyal job. After it was all over she found her way back home and trotted into the house as though nothing had happened."
