Influenze affects three schools.
"No Cause for Alarm"

An epidemic of influenza affected schools at Colne, Lancashire, to-day and by the afternoon session some 400 children out of a total of 1,150 at three of the town's biggest schools were unwell. Dr. R.E.Robinson, divisional medical officer for Nelson and Colne, said there was reason to suspect that it was Asiatic influenza. There was no cause for alarm since the symptoms were only mild and the attack should only last two or three days.
"We are sending youngsters home all the time," said Mr. G. Bell, the headmaster at one Colne school.
The divisional education officer, Mr. W.H. Shepherd, has circularized all schools over a wide area asking teachers to watch children and send them home at the slightest sign of sickness. School holidays in Lancashire are staggered to coincide with industrial holidays in various regions of the county. The holidays at Colne schools ended on August 12.
