I have put the same message on LFHHS and had some interesting feedback. This is what I have been given by two helpful people.
Here is a GRO Index entry from FreeBMD: Deaths Jun 1915 Coleman George 72 Chorley 8e 601
There is a George Coleman of the correct age living with his wife Ann and son George in Harpurhey in the 1901 census. He was born in Pendleton. In 1881 he also had sons, James, Elijah and Charles H. and a daughter Mary living with him in Ancoats. In 1861 he was living with his wife in the household of his parents Solomon and Ellen Coleman, together with his sister, Harriet and brother, John. It looks as if it could be this George's name on the curb stone. Perhaps he was buried in the grave of a relative and his name was recorded on the edge.
Ref your gravestone, I remember when the M6 Motorway was built a number of old gravestones were used as ballast in the bridge which crosses the A49 just north of Leyland. When some repairs to the bridge were undertaken a few years ago, these were rediscovered. As the bridge may be near to where you live this may be the source of this stone. An article in one on the local newspapers reported on this find ( I don't remember which newspaper) and it may have stated which cemetery the stones came from.
I replied to the latter saying there were no marks to suggest it had been used as ballast. But I did wonder if it had been taken from a graveyard when the M6 was extended southwards from Leyland. I think I may go to Chorley library to see if they can shed any light on it. Won't be in the next week though. Will keep you posted.
