Pie maker makes plea for tasters

A famous Lancashire pie maker is looking for hungry volunteers to join its tasting panel.

Holland's, which is based in Baxenden, wants a dedicated pie panel to help sample its pies, puddings and pasties and have a hand in creating new ones.

The firm's managing director, Neil Court-Johnston, wants to recruit 12 people to advise him on new takes on the meat and potato favourite.

He said he wanted to "reawaken the region's passion for pies".

Those selected will be invited to a series of specially arranged pie-tasting sessions to review every recipe and offer their opinions.

Holland's employs more than 400 people and is part of the chilled division of Northern Foods.

Anyone interested in joining the panel is urged to contact Northern Foods.

My dad, Jack Halstead, owned a chippie for a number of year in Clayton, Manchester. I loved the Holland's meat and potato pies...and their cheese and onion ones too. :P
I remember the steak puddings too....don't know if they were Hollands...cannot get them here in Canada.

When I was little the puddings came in aluminium basins. There was a refundable deposit on the tins.
