This lancashire Day proclomation is read out by town criers throughout the county on 27th November.

The Lancashire Day Proclomation.

To: The people of the city and county of Lancaster.
GREEETINGS!
Know ye that this day, November 27th in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Eight, the 57th year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll, Duke of Lancaster, is Lancashire Day.

Know ye also, and rejoice, that by virtue of her Majesty's County Palatine of Lancaster, the citizens of the Hundreds of Lonsdale, North and South of the Sands, Amounderness, Leyland, Blackburn, Salford and West Derby are forever entitled to style themselves Lancastrians.

Throughout the County Palatine, from the Furness Fells to the River Mersey, from the Irish Sea to the Pennines, this day shall ever mark the peoples' pleasure in that excellent distinction- true Lancastrians, proud of the Red Rose and loyal to our Sovereign Duke.

GOD BLESS LANCASHIRE AND GOD SAVE THE QUEEN, DUKE OF LANCASTER.

Stephanie.

Come to town to celebrate Lancashire Day

Leisure and culture news
Published: Tuesday 18th November 2008
Pendle will resound to the cries of “Oyez!” as the town crier calls people to Nelson to celebrate Lancashire Day.

Honorary Town Crier, Councillor Tony Beckett, will be reading Lancashire's Charter Proclamation on the hour, every hour from 11 am to 3pm.

He says:
"Come and join in the biggest celebration of our county's founding day on Thursday 27 November.
Councillor Beckett will be in full costume and full Lanky dialect flow.
"The day will be crammed wi gradley goins on in Nelson town centre -
"tha'll be flabbergasted!" he adds.

Councillor Beckett will be joined by Councillor George Adam, who will be in the character of King Edward I. He's the King who allowed the proclamation for Lancashire to be made.

There will be two marquees between the market area and Wilkinsons to celebrate Lancashire county's heritage.

Lancastrians and newcomers are all welcome to enjoy Lancashire food, drink and entertainment between 11 am and 3pm.

There'll be Lancashire market stalls selling everything from black puddings, to cakes and Lancashire cheese.

Nelson's Holy Saviour's Primary School will be performing traditional dances and readings of Lancashire dialect.

People can enjoy a guided tour behind the scenes at Nelson Town Hall at 2.30 pm.

Please pre-book by contacting the Mayor's Secretary, Fiona Standring, on 01282 661636 or fiona.standring@pendle.gov.uk

Fiona explained:
The tour gives you a chance to visit the Victorian police cells hidden in the cellar beneath the Council Chamber.
"The Chamber was once used regularly as a courtroom.
"You will also see portraits of former mayors, including Nelson's first ever Mayor, Samuel Gott."
"People on the tour will also get a rare opportunity to see Pendle's historic Mayoral regalia insignia, including our unique mace and the Pendle mayoral chain" she added.

Media opportunity:
Reporters and photographers are welcome anytime from 11 am - 3pm Thursday 27 November in Nelson Town centre, between Wilkinsons and the market area.

The Town Crier will read the Lancashire Charter proclamation on the hour every hour between 11 am and 3pm.
