That’s interesting; I didn’t know Burnley had dancing bears.

If you could go back in history, what period would you visit? I am enthralled with the late 19th century and early 20th, so I would start there.

Me too Kris, think that would be an eye opener, there are a few centuries I would like to visit if I could though, I am pretty greedy but I do think the 19th and early 20th is favourite.

I think I would like to see 18th century but also the 19th. It's hard to decide isn't it - there is so many interesting events in every century!

I'd only want to go back in time if I knew what my econo-socio status would be. No way I want to be a scullery maid or a laundress....or a clog-wearing weaver in the late 19th/early 20th century....or a starving widow with 4 small children....or in the workhouse!
If I was the Lady of Extwistle Hall...well, OK.

Well, in my mind you can go back in time and watch from a distance, or you can go to the past with knowledge of the future. You could invent something useful like the post-it-note, or open a Star Bucks coffee shop!

Don't they make movies about people like you, Kris?

I imagine it more like a Scrooge type view - ghost of Christmas past.

Thinking about this a little more - would I want to see the hardships suffered by my ancestors? It's one thing reading about the life they (generally poeple of an era) endured but it would be completely different to actually see it and be able to do nothing to improve it.

Yes, they probably do Suzy (American Psycho).

It would be interesting to see the hardships, and the good times, like family weddings and Baptisms. You would have to be careful not to alter someone’s life though, as it might change history. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQXOx2lYnA4

given the chance, I'd go back to the mid 19th century. The people on my tree then are 'recent' enough to feel like real people, but far enough back for me to not know much about them. Oh the chance to fill in some blanks! As for not changing someone's life, that woud be a serious problem for me. Most of the people on my tree seem to have been deperately poor and I just wouldn't be able to stop myself doing something to help. I do fantasise about it from time to time and I picture myself turning up with blankets and broth and penicillin.

I wonder what would be thought of someone in those days saying "just let me jab your bottom with this needle and all will be healed!!"

I was thinking more along the line of tablets myself. Trouble is tho, when you're known for a witch, it could be a bit dangerous going round handing out miracle cures couldn't it?

Seeing as penicillin was not yet invented...your 'magic', Portia, would certainly support the claim that you were just one of the Pendle Witches!!
