Obama set to shame Brown by attending D-Day anniversary... as Labour refuses to pay for veterans' return to Normandy

What are your thoughts on this? I think it is disgusting that the British Government will not be sending a delegate to this years D-Day anniversary, but do you think the Government should spend the £500,000 necessary so that British veterans and their carers can attend the ceremony in France?

It is a lot of money, there will be arguements for and against with todays climate, it could be a case of damned if you do, and damned if you dont. I think Prince Charles should take himself as our representative, after all he enjoys wearing the medals.

I’m in two minds about the money. £500,000 to this government is spare change, and let’s face it, Labour has wasted a lot of money over the years for worthless causes.

Millennium Dome – Approximately £700 million
Millennium Bridge – Approximately £18 million
Olympic logo – Approximately £400,000
Olympic village – Approximately £900 million
Wembley Stadium – Approximately £750 million
Government funding to Muslim community groups to fight extremism – Approximately £90 million (2009)
Britain gives Pakistan £1 Billion to fight extremism (2008)
War in Iraq – Approximately £1,449 billion (2008 figure from Ministry of Defence)

Not just the money wasted on the projects you mention above Kris. What about the millions that they have stumped up to bail out the banks....the very same banks that, despite needing government help, are paying out huge bonuses.

Very true Mel. There are loads of examples. Erica Connor, a former teacher, has been awarded £400,000 because of stress and allegations of racism. Even if this money is deserved, who is going to pay the damages? The Tax payer.

Gordon Brown led a remarkable Labour U-turn yesterday over the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings this summer.
The Prime Minister indicated he would be happy to attend a commemoration ceremony in Normandy on June 6. …..
