Saw this in my newspaper today, thought it worth a mention:
Doreen Carson's well-used food mixer will take some beating. Her Kenwood Chef has lived up to its reputation as the Rolls Royce of kitchen appliances by still helping Doreen bake pies and cakes after all these years.
It was second hand when husband Frank bought it more than 50 years ago. Doreen, 79, said Frank had spruced it up-with a coat of yellow paint- meaning it could not be considered antique.
But despite its facelift it has never had to be repaired. All the original attachments are still there and it is still in regular use. Doreen, of BURNLEY, was the envy of her neighbours when Frank spotted it in a second-hand shop and bought it on the spur of the moment. It became a fixture on the Carson kitchen table and was in use almost every day.
Sadly, Frank died last month, only days after the couple got a letter form the Queen to mark their diamond jubilee. Said Doreen: "Rationing hadn't been over all that long and you made all your own meals in those days. When the boys were at home it was always in demand.
"Now our four grandchildren have had their share of home-baked cakes and I can't imagine cooking without it."
Son Robert, who works in Manchester, said: "Owning a food mixer would have been quite a big deal. This was the days of cobbled streets, gas lighting, outside toilets and tin baths in front of the fire."
A Kenwood spokesman said: "We often hear stories from customers who are still enjoying their Kenwood Chefs after many years of regular use."
