I am attempting to grow veggies but have been attacked by greenfly. Are there any gardeners amongst you that can suggest a rememdy please? It started on my strawberries and now my radishes and tomatoes.

Old remedy my mum and grandma would use was diluted washing up liquid sprayed on plants, seemed to help. Needs to be done regularly.

Thanks Patricia - I tried that a couple of years ago on some basil I was growing. I'm not sure if I made the solution to strong but the basil went black and died! Do you know what the quantities should be?

I do have a spray for greenfly on veggies but would prefer a non-chemical answer.

Someone told me that a plant near to the veg could/should attract the fly away - can't remember what the plant is though!

Hubby seems to think the plant you are on about is the Limnanthes (poached egg flower).

They attract hoverflies to beat the aphids, they also attract bees, but I quite like watching bee's in my garden they dont do you any harm, not like wasps. Have a look at this site.

Just been reading up about these Hoverflies, and they are very garden friendly, in fact they are the gardeners friend. Some other plants that attract them are, Alyssum, Chamomile and Parsley. Good hunting.
