Beware the family tree: You may lift the lid on things you'd rather not know

This article made me wonder how many of you were prompted by the series 'Who Do You Think You Are?'

Can't read the article as am at work, but can definitely state that I've not been inspired by that TV Programme. I've only watched one or two, in actuality. While it is quite an interesting show, I find it does belittle the amount of work that one has to do just to get so much as a new name on a branch. For example, it's taken me somewhere around nine years to finally track down the parents of my Great Grandmother. They're nothing special - just Irish labourers - but it's still fascinating to me to have some names, a wedding location, names of some more kids, etc. It would be absolutely anathema for a TV Audience or a Producer, but then again, I don't care too much about the Big Things in my tree. I just want to find out all I can about the "little people" who worked so hard for so many generations in order, it seems, that I end up where I currently am!

It does exude a real weight of responsibility to make something of my life :)
