Just seen something today that I have'nt seen for years, had all the windows open due to it being lovely and warm, and as I sat in my dining room I heard somebody shouting 'rag bone', went to the window and there was a young bloke sat in the passenger seat of a pick up, when he saw me he shouted any scrap. Brought back memories I can tell you, only difference is it is now motorised transport instead of the horse and cart, wonder if I would have got a donkeystone for my scrap :)

They've been driving round here for well over a year. We have had 4 different ones so far this week.
I thought the same when I first heard one all those months ago. 2 of the ones round here have a recording that they play far too loud. Gets a little annoying when it is almost daily!

Rag bone men have horse and carts, they do not have pick ups, and they so do not play recordings. Obviously not proper rag bone men. What is the world coming to

Oh, my word....! what memories. Staying at my grandparents at 31 Granville Street, Harle Syke...and hearing the Rag Bone Man in the back ginnel (sp?)....yes, donkeystone for the steps. What other little tidbits did they used to hand out?? Does anyone remember? :?:
