Has anyone any experience of researchers?

Regardless of the answer - what would you consider to be a reasonable charge? I have seen some advertised at £25 per hour and more.

I once employed a researcher for Gloucestershire but I'm sure I only paid about £12 or £15 per hour. Am I a scrooge or do you think £25+ is a bit much?

Mel, I paid 14 pounds per hour for a researcher to search records at Lancashire Record Office. She lived in the Preston area. This was in 2007 so the fees may have increased now. It was well worth it as she found information I wouldn't have known about, and I can't get to the LRO. I've enquired in the past about researchers in the London area and they charge more.

I've found it best for both the researcher and myself if I'm very specific about what I want and give relevant information ahead of time.

Thinking about it, my search must have been about 4 years ago. I don't mind paying around £15 but I think over £40 per hour is a bit OTT
