I'm hoping that when my poor Aunt (who has been unwell) gets out of hospital she will let me look at a box of family photographs and postcards from Burnley brought out by my Grandparents to NZ. Maybe there will be some suitable to post on here.

Fingers crossed for you Glenys.

We would be happy to accept any and all pictures relating to Briercliffe, its surroundings and people. Please PM if anyone has any they wish to submit or contact me using the contact form on the main site.

Mel...this may be impertinent from a new member...but do you have requests periodically in the newspaper or other Briercliffe Bulletins reminding people who are clearing the home of a newly departed loved one that those boxes of old photos are PRECIOUS?!
The thought of someone putting them out for the binman makes me shiver.

Good thought Sue. No I don't. I should contact a few of the house clearance folk too.

Roger could mention something to this effect in his column in the Burnley Express. Bet he hasn't thought of that.

I'll bet he hasn't Gloria...a excellent idea! I really hadn't given it a thought. Even when Cally on OGFB had those pictures from a house clearance in Barlick.
I'll do some digging when I am back in the UK next week.

I phoned Roger today. We spoke about house clearances, there is one company he is aware of in Burnley that holds auctions once a month. I got the impression he goes when he can and keeps his eyes peeled for pics.

I'll look into getting an ad into the paper in Burnley when I get home. Gloria, do they have a free newspaper up there? We get one called 'The Advertiser'. Free to every home but a small fee to advertise. Some interesting community stuff in it.
Speaking of papers, we will be having Rogers 'Peek into the Past' material, Briercliffe only, for use on the site. Should be receiving that at the next meeting. He has a new book out some time this month titled 'Peek into the Past'.

There should be a bit of a plan revealed for the 25th anniversary in a month or so. An exhibition is on the cards, something bigger than last years and I should think some of your pictures will be on show Sue. They are currently looking at mid September. I will let you all know as soon as Roger gets detail to me. This site will be the main advert.

If he was to mention it in his column the people of Briercliffe might be inclined to get rid of some.
There is a free paper, not sure of the name of it though--might be The Citizen.

Yes Gloria our local free paper is the Citizen. Let me know Mel if you want their address or phone number. The local auction will be Walton and Walton. I think they have a web site advertising what is coming up for sale.

Please please please put the name and as many details as possible on the reverse of family photos. I have met many elderly people whilst researching my family history. They seem to have boxes and boxes of old photos but apart from their immediate family they don't remember who the people are.

It's so sad to see old sepia photos for sale at local antique centres and no-one know who they are.

Susan Kerr did this Pollyanna. She sat with her Dad and took notes as he looked at the picture. I now have the pictures in my possession complete with notes. Many of them are now on the site complete with the notes. Sue's Dad has added to his original notes since seeing them on here. The new notes are not yet with the pictures as they use Lancashire dialect and I can't yet display a ' in the picture description. I have to pester Lyndon to change the scripts to allow me to.

If you could send me the address and phone number, that would be great. Thanks.

Hi Glenys, I am just revisiting old topics, did your Aunt recover?
