When are you off on your travels Mel, do they do much about christmas in France?

You read my mind! I've just logged in to do the same thing.

Very soon and no idea what they do over there. I do know that they make more fuss of Christmas Eve than Christmas Day and they don't do Boxing Day. That's just the 26th. We will be three and three dogs for dinner this year. Much less stressful than the 10 I had last year. Looking forward to a relaxing break doing very little. Hisnibs has had a dose of bacterial tonsilitis, a cold and a reaction to the antibiotics, all of which dominated about 6 weeks. Thankfully he is now recovered but he did have me worried for a while.

I just need to survive running around like a headless chicken in the morning - making sure banking is done, wages are paid etc and then a liquid lunch with my sister-in-law which might become liquid tea too!!!

Now...your answer is not going to come easily....you are a famous researcher, right?? So....Google Richards Landing (no apostrophe) in Ontario, Canada......and start there. Pioneers in Canada hold a certain amount of interest, but compared to British history, it seems like yesterday! There is a sweet museum on the Island (Richards Landing is one of two villages on St. Joseph Island)....and you can ask any question and you will get every detail humanly possible sent to you!

Yes, it is, Gloria! You'd be welcome anytime for a visit.....
The Island is situated on St. Mary's River which connects Lakes Superior, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron...closer to Huron. Mostly farming and logging and tourism these days. The Richards house is still in the heart of the village, on the water, and is inhabited, but not by descendants of the original family.
We have a little hospital, a medical clinic with 3 doctors, a liquor store, 5 boutiquey shops, a grocery story, a convenience store, a bank with ATM, and a library. What else does anyone need!?
We have lived there 10 years and last year sold our house and moved into a small townhouse (seniors) which is one unit of 12. Nice...looks out over the beach. We say there Spring, summer and Fall...and hightail it out of there for winter. there will come a time when we can't do that any more, so will be snug as a bug in our little house where, if anything goes wrong, someone comes and fixes it!!
As I previously mentioned, there is an interesting museum, well stocked with memorabilia.....and this Island still has many families who have been here for many, many years. You can't talk about anyone behind their back, because whomever you are talking to is probably related somehow, somewhere along the line! A bit like Harle Syke, methinks!!

We have been over there a few years ago. We stayed in Toronto for a couple or three days then went and stayed the same at Niagara Falls. Really enjoyed the trip.

Well....we in Northern Ontario don't consider Toronto part of Canada really! Next time, travel to the REAL Ontario....where there are forests as far as the eye can see.....and lakes around every bend. Just point the nose of your car westwards on the highway....and drive 8 hours or so. I'll have the kettle on!
