We said goodbye to my dads uncle yesterday. He was 84 and had not been well for some time. Whilst it was a sad occasion, it brought our family together in a way that has not been seen for a very long time. The wake was a really enjoyable occasion, cousins who haven't seen or spoken to each other in over 20 years were having a really good catch up. I don't think any of us wanted to leave. Uncle John would have been chuffed to bits that he had managed to get everyone under one roof again.

And thank heavens for smart phones. I managed to get a photo identified :D A lady who I thought was my gt gt gran turns out to be my 3x gt gran!

Sad to say, we all used to get together at weddings - there were masses of us - and now it's just funerals. Scarey to think I'm one step away from being in the front line.
You must be well chuffed Mel - especially as it's a generation back not forward

Interesting that you have a photo of someone now identified as a 3 gt-grandparent, Mel. I have two, of different 3 gt grandfathers, both born in the 1790s ! Perhaps I can claim mine a bit more remarkable than yours because I'm older than you...... [I'm older than most site contributors, I fear]

All the more surprising as I had previously only seen a picture of my Gt grandad in that particular line.

I did make plans to visit one or two cousins to scan their photos. I haven't been able to go yet though as I have been full of bugs and don't want to spread them around. The good thing is that they have met me now if they get a phone call out of the blue. One of the cousins knew of my website and was keen to meet me. That felt REALLY good. She was intrigued by the info I had pulled together. Hoping to meet up with her too.
