My rellies had it right living high up in Briercliffe, don't know why we ever moved, we have floods all around us. The river is over the bridge onto the road, surrounding properties are flooded, the fields are lakes. At least if you live on top of a hill the water can only go one way

Yes Gloria, sitting here quite smug watching the water pour down to Lane Bottom.
Just heard that the area where they are proposing to build the new school on Towneley Holmes is under water. These planning people will just not listen to common sense, the area has always been prone to flooding. :(

I've just spent the day in Halifax where it was flooded. The river where it runs past Luddenden church was quite frightening, it was deafening, rumbling. I've never heard noise like it.

I found it quite frightening, we were having to shout over the noise. I thought we were going to get trapped in the cememtery by the river at one point. People were having to be rescued down the road from where we were (I read this on the tinternet when I got home). We were completely oblivious that it was as bad as it was. We saw police and fire engines everywhere but didn't realise it was for the river. It did explain why lorries were travelling down a single lane track from Warley to Sowerby though.
The road from Halifax to Hebden Bridge (A682?) was closed at Hebden Bridge, apparently a lorry parked itself in the river.

I should be heading to Wakefield for the day tomorrow. I will do a weather check before we leave. We were going to stop up there tonight but something came up that meant we couldn't.

Great pics David. I really like deep fast flowing water---strange woman.
I wonder just how many times the churchyard has flooded, can't have been a problem as there have been burials there for such a long time. Although I think there have been some instances where graves have slipped riverwards.

these are brilliant photos - I'm another one who's mesmerised by fast-flowing water. the last time I remember seeing Padiham like that there were swans swimming in the library car park. I think they've put a barrier up now to stop it happening again.
