Notice he only had one child? Was his type of work a turnoff for Mrs T.?

I'm told they :o they were vital to the community!! Horse drawn traffic, up to your knees in it, could do with him around now, my roses need him!!!!!

That might have been the only work he was capable of doing to earn an honest living, he may have had an accident at sometime, perhaps in the mills and this was his way of getting by for himself and his family, remember there was no benefit system as there is today.
I remember one winter when I was very small in the late 1940's and money was short my Dad and other men went coal picking, to provide a fire for their families, it was either that are freeze, I admired him for that. :)

Don't get paranoid. A rag and bone man is the least of your worries....look at my tree. Hope it doesn't run in the family!

Did you see secret millionaire at the weekend? The man on there was a multi-millionaire scrap merchant. One mans rubbish and all that!
