Hello Leaver, Cannot understand why I have never seen this link before. Very interesting for me as John Crossland is my Gt Grandfather. So you are related by marriage to the Hargreaves. Have you seen the photo of the grave of Emmanuel Hargreaves and his wife Mary in St. Johns Gt. Marsden. They were the parents of Mary and her siblings. As they are not direct line for you, I doubt that you have researched their tree. Emmanuel was baptised at Haggate.
I thought I was rolling along quite well with my Crossland tree when I hit a brick wall. John's father was a miner living at the time of his death in Berwick St Burnley. Although from the family bible I knew his wifes maiden name, on bmd I could find only one marriage and it wasn't to a Crossland. Why would a miner change his name? Strangely his wife was the last person in the family to change to the name noted on one of the childrens birth certificates.

I started looking at the family tree of the former Foreign Secretary Tony Crosland recently. His father was from Lancashire, and I wonder if there is a connection here?

I have Croslands myself on my tree, although they are from Kirkburton in the 1500s. I'd like to be able to match them up with the great man, but it'll take a fair few man hours I imagine!

Hi Gill, I don’t have my family tree loaded on my new laptop, so I don’t know if I have added details for Emmanuel Hargreaves. Anyhow, thanks for directing me to this grave, something to check on out later.

Thanks, Maureen. I haven’t researched my Catlow tree in ages, so I doubt things have changed.
