Subject: VOYAGE OF THE FLYING CLOUD TO MARYBOROUGH 1870

Dear Secretary,

The Maryborough Family Heritage Institute Inc. will be compiling a book on the 1870 voyage of the Flying Cloud and would like to contact as many descendants of the passengers from this voyage as possible. Hopefully this book will be published to coincide with the 140th year since its arrival in Maryborough on 2nd September 1870.

Anyone willing to share information on their ancestors on board and who know where they settled would be appreciated. Photos of these passengers and/or children are also requested for publishing in this book.

The following is a summary of the voyage.

The Black Ball ship Flying Cloud, J. L. Owen, Esq., Commander from Liverpool with Government immigrants, being the 99th ship under the Queensland Immigration Act, arrived in Hervey's Bay on Tuesday, 30th August having made one of the fastest passages on record. She left Mersey on June 4th and rounded Break Sea Spit at 1 p.m. on the 29th and on Tuesday 30th anchored in Hervey's Bay at 5.p.m

On Thursday 1st September the Immigration Agent (Mr. Faircloth and Mr. Travis went down to the vessel by the Lady Bowen, by which steamer the Rockhampton portion of the immigrants were forwarded. The immigrants for Maryborough were brought on by the Queensland and arrived on the morning of 2nd September 1870.
