Many people will I am sure recognise this title, published in a number of editions from c. 1925 to 1947. It's not that uncommon.

I remember Joe, just, he died in the late 1940s, and I'm a Senior Citizen but not a pensioner (though I am starting to rev up for it). He was a longtime friend of my grandfather, and indeed there is a dedication to my grandfather in the last edition.

The first edition of the guide is rare : if anyone out there has one (the title may be different, not mentioning Holme), I'd would love to make an offer, if you were willing to part with it.

He also published other odds and ends (eg 'Nelson Waterworks' !), and I would like to acquire any such also.

Joe was a grocer in Brierfield, also working at times for the Nelson Leader as a journalist. His devotion to and knowledge of Pendle (the hill and the district !) was legendary. I have some other items of his, passed down through my family.

How time flies ! If you read the initial post you will find I wasn't yet a pensioner. Well, I am now, and have been for some time !

Anyway, I recently came into possession of some old papers and books that had been my grandfathers. Amongst them were some copies of Joe's book, including (holy grail this) a copy in very good condition of the first edition, which I shall now always treasure. It is entitled simply 'Rambles Round Pendle'.

Over the years I have collected a number of copies of the later editions. The second says 'ENLARGED EDITION', green cover. The third says 'RESET AND FURTHER ENLARGED EDITION', red cover. The fourth, after WW2, says the same as the third, light blue cover.

You will see them on ebay or Abebooks, sometimes at rather high prices I think. If anyone would like one, send me a private message, saying which edition (2nd, 3rd or 4th), and I'll look through my collection, and let you know what I can offer, with price according to condition, to include p+p.
