I have received an email from a gentleman named Frank whose mother was Dorothy Duerden. Dorothy was headmistress of Haggate School around 1930.
Frank has kindly offered to send various press cuttings and old photographs.

As well as his offer, he says...

Remember clog inspections at Haggate?

I remember the Wartime teachers: From the top:
Miss Ellingham (head)
Miss Pickup
Miss Swire
Mrs Wren
Miss Hutton (Baby class)

What memories i remember at Haggate schoolteachers Miss Pickup Mrs Wren Miss Hutton .

Miss Hutton was my teacher in the baby class we had to lie down in the afternoon and have a rest and Miss Hutton wore make up powder and lipstick which i not seen before .

Mrs Wren taught the class up from the baby class and i remember if you were naughty she would slap you on the hand with not a ruler or cane but a KNIFE .What would they think of that today .

cant remember being taught by Miss Pickup but she was at Haggate when i was a pupil this would be 1944.
my mother would make me a little pie for my dinner and Mr Duerden the care taker would warm it up for me .

Happy Days.
