Having your hair cut when you are male used to be a trivial affair, unlike being female, ever.

As a boy I went, with my father initially, to Maison Hugill (really), on Church St near the little metal bridge over the Brun. We pronounced it 'Mason', and it was only about 15 years later, long after passing French GCE, that the penny, or centime, dropped.

Anyone remeber the establishment, run by father and son ?

Where Hannah, I cannot picture it at all?? Near the old grammar school?
Just realised it's the row that goes behind the Keirby, I think it is right at the end if my memory serves me right.

Used to take my son there for his hair cut, he was a smashing bloke, he also had a daughter that was a hairdresser, perhaps it is now her salon!

I think everyone that went to Hugills, thought that "Maison" was his name.I think that the shop had Black and White Tiles? or paintwork on the outside..
The bridge across the Brun was locally called the "Police Bridge" and came out at the bottom of Bank Parade.
Burnley Lads Club, was just up Bank Parade on the right hand side and I think the Territorial Army Hall was on the left..As a teenager when given the choice of barber, myself and most of my friends, went to Alf Mallets, under the Culvert. :0)
