On Sept. 11 and 12, 1683, Christian armies under the command of the King of Poland ended the Turks' two-month campaign to take the city. Never again would Muslims come so close to imposing Islam on Europe, at least until the 21st century. As writer Hilaire Bellow once said, it is "a date that ought to be among the most famous in history — September 11, 1683."

I was sitting on a terrace in France sipping red wine when the planes struck the twin towers. The friend we were staying with was indoors and shouted through the window 'you'd better come up, WW3 has just broke out'. We were glued to the TV for quite some time after.

Tonight, on the anniversary, I was sitting on a terrace in France sipping red wine.

I was at the Bik Bok shop in Sigulda, Latvia. The shop assistant didn’t speak very much English, but I remember her telling me that Russia was being attacked. :?: :?:
