I've just been looking through my Nans old birthday book. There are several entries for the surname of Christian. I asked my mum and she says they are a family from Harle Syke. My Nan was really good friends with a girl by the name of Belinda Christian.

I'm going through my Nans address book now. This must be dated post 1930. My Grandad is listed in it and she didn't meet him until about 1930 when she came to Staffordshire. She married him in 1933.

I have a

Miss M Emmott who lived at 505 Briercliffe Road.
Mr B Harrison Cleaver Street Burnley
Miss S Hargraves 53 Williams Rd Burnley

Mr J H Rukin Briercliffe Road Burnley

Never heard of the name Christian up Harle Syke, but you know who to ask don't you? Briercliffe Rd, Burnley runs from Duke Bar so they could be down there I suppose. I think Burnley Rd, Harle Syke/Briercliffe begins at the boundary near the Commercial pub.

Last time we were up, Mum was looking for where she thought the Christian had lived. She thought it was the Saxifield area. Nan grew up in the house on the corner of Briercliffe Road and Croasdale Avenue so I guess it would be somewhere there where the Christians lived.

I knew it would be worthwhile posting the address book info. I have received a PM from a member who is related to some of the people who featured in Nans book. It feels really good to know that the names and address's mean something to someone else.
I think I will go through her birthday book when we get back to the UK next week.

My mum has shed a bit of light on 'Mother Leigh'. She was quite an elderly lady who lived on a farm somewhere below what is now Croasdale Avenue. (I don't know if it has always been this?)
Nan used to go to see her to get the milk. Mother Leigh had a daughter, or grand-daughter, who lived next door to the Craven Heifer. Mum thinks her name was Jenny.

Just below Croasdale Avenue is the area once known as Swamp Top.

Above the new Lanehead school, there is a row of old cottages running away from the road. There is also a farm house on the road side, but its name escapes me at the moment, I am not sure but I think a pic of it is in Roger's book, have had a quick look but haven't found it.

Going to meet descensdants of Nans friends tomorrow. Really looking forward to it. It won't get my family tree anywhere but it'll be nice to know what the friends of my nan were like. All flesh on (nans) bones stuff.
