CLITHEROE TO WHALLEY BY-PASS

In the Burnley Express on the opening of the Whalley/Clitheroe by-pass, there was a cartoon showing a man looking at a signpost, and asking for a short cut to Harle Syke. I replied to this as follows

That Whalley/Clitheroe by-pass sketch,
in last saturdays Express,
a chap wanting a short cut up t' Syke,
cos he were lost an in distress.

I doorn't know what that chap were doing,
or weer he might hev bin,
but to say ut he's a Syker,
is causing mortal sin.

For foorks uts born up theer at Syke,
no matter where they roam,
they're just like homing pigeons,
they find their own way hhome.

Th'Owd Syker
