MILK AN' MONEY

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be ----THOUT HILL.

That's what ha think abairt Thout Hill,
and the words are not spocken i' jest,
the Reverend Percy had plenty to say,
but arm noorn bairn let him be best.

He talks wi' pride abairt Thout Hill,
but why, mecks mi feel very soor,
they've built one row o' hairses two hundred yer,
since then, not a single hairse moor.

When he starts to talk abairt Thout Hill Row,
an, tells us abairt its age,
he's like an author who's writing a book,
an' can nobbut fill one blooming page.

He queried mi' planet, and then outer space,
he sez ut heaven is theer----up aboon,
but ah'll tell him ahm noor in a hurry to goor,
if its lilke what ah've sin on the moon.

Ah'll tell yer why Thout Hill's never grown up,
some wanderers saw what it wer like,
they'd bin told ther wer corn airt i' Egypt,
An' they wer mecking ther way theer, thru Syke.

But when they geet dairn inter village,
the weather were warm, and so sunny,
leader said, Ti's here wi' bairn stay,
it's a land flowing wi' milk and wi' money.

Then they built them shades ut tha talks abairt,
if thard a pairnd it ud buy thi a share,
an' thard own thi own airse, an' one next door,
like the airtsiders all think wi' do nair.

Ah'll tellyer nair why ther's few foork at Thout HIll,
yer want ter gooer past Thill Farm when it snows,
an yerd sweer norbody could be living i' Thoud Row,
unless they wer Eskimos.

Th'Owd Syker
