The Craven Heifer pub at the bottom end of Cop Row dates at least from 1871, under that name. My 2-gt grandfather was publican from then till his death in 1878.

There was also a pub of this name at the bottom of Whittam St, in Burnley, at its junction with Hammerton St, later renamed as the Falcon. The earliest record I have is 1870.

Can any kind soul living in or near Burnley check Directory entries at Burnley library, for both, prior to 1870 ? Publican's name would be great !

If so, though there is no hurry, please put a note here, to avoid duplication.

In hope, and with thanks,

Rex
