 Who suggested that!!! I have walked around graveyards, tripped into newly dug graves, it's easier to read gravestones if you reverse around the churchyard. St James in Harle Syke is full of Whitakers, but mine have been discovered at Haggate, ( thanks to Mrs Halstead). Have ordered a cert. of marriage for Thomas and Eliz. Ellen (as suggested by a member earlier) to see if his 'unmarried' daddy is on it.

Yes I am local, but as I continue to make a fool of myself on this website, a trip up to your meeting may or maynot be in the offing, we shall see

Where have you made a fool of yourself?
We have all been in the position of finding new resources and discovering what they are all about. In fact, I would say that, even after 10 years of researching, I am still stumbling on resources that are alien to me. I think it keeps this obsession interesting and fresh. Wouldn't it be boring if all we looked at was census returns?

Honestly Hannah, you will be made more than welcome at the meetings. Gloria, Portia (Maureen), myself and my mum are all regular attendees.

Hannah you should come. It's usually very interesting and the natives are friendly. Just keep a lookout for low-flying  broomsticks.
