:o Just realised Patricia, that poor old George was only 44 when he died a pauper??/ Two years after the youngest of his 7 children was born.
They have given Wheatley Lane as address, are records kept for occupants on what I know is a big stretch of road, two sons are listed as shopkeepers?? Is there a clue there that I am missing. Did Susannah live with George when she migrated here. There must be something in this new info. that will give me a clue.
The only John I can find was born 1679 and died 1766 in Grisedale??? Only his parents are listed??? :?:

The occupation refers to the father not the son.

:!: So George came to Newchurch as a wool worker and drifted in to shopkeeping, wonder if the trade directory covers that period and can I also trust the man who looked up the Newchurch records at Preston!!! He gave me a completely wrong number for the tel. for Yorkshire Archives around Skipton, so did he miss something in Newchurch??? Mmm, looks like I may have to make another trip to look at that book.

 Just a couple of things I don't understand.
What does LDS Film source mean?

Also, if I now know Susannah widow of John died in Newchurch in 1777, what is the best website to find a marriage. I have tried all the ones I normally use with no progress.

LDS Film should mean that you can take that number to your nearest Mormon family history centre and view the film if they have it on the premises or order it for a 3 month loan.

As for marriages on websites, not all marriages are online particularly the earlier ones. It's back to the old fashioned method of library visits and viewing parish records. Process of elimination of you don't already have a starting point. You may have just hit a brick wall Hannah. We all have them!
