Hi

I am looking for anyone who is a descendant of the Hill family from Burnley. My gt grandparents were JAMES HILL/BETTY HILL (nee BRIDGE). They had 13 children (all survived) and lived in the Brunshaw area. JAMES' father was JAMES b @1840- STOCKPORT and he married MARGARET BURROWS. In particular I am looking for James' father (named as GEORGE on his marriage cert). I have spent 6 years looking for a GEORGE HILL b @ 1809 only to have recently discovered a family story that he was'nt called GEORGE HILL but GEORGE POWERS, he was supposed to have been on the run from police? and met someone called ? HILL and took her name. I know its a shot in the dark but is there anyone who could be descendant from this branch of the Hill family that would contact me. Also I am looking for info on GEORGE HILL b @ 1862 (my gt x 2 grandfather's brother). He was known as Dodi Pea and was a hawker/pea seller (as was his daughter SARAH aka SALLY PEA). I have been told that George did well for himself and actually owned the TRADING HALL in Burnley. When he died he is supposed to have left @ £10,000 to his mistress and nothing to his wife MARY. Can anyone confirm that George had involvement in the Trading Hall in burnley or suggest where I may look for further info

I would think Burnley Library may know something about the Trading Hall, and maybe George Hill as he must have been quite well known in the area----worth an e-mail.
