Hello all,

I am researching the Catlow family from Denton Lancashire that before there came from Colne.
The earliest ancestor I can find from the Catlow clan is Samuel Catlow who married Betty Dewhurst (Married in Colne).

Samuel and Betty had John Catlow who married Fanny Brown In Stockport.

John and Fanny had Nelson Catlow in Denton aswell as various other kids. Some of the kids are worth mentioning as they were given quite distinctive names such as Collingwood, George Wellington, Thomas Duncan and William Vincent.

Does anyone else recognise these names from their own Catlow families and if so I would love to hear back.

I am trying to trace back from Samuel and see what the family were upto and if perhaps they were still Hatters even before then.

Kind regards

Danny

Hi Danny, welcome to the site.
I have the Catlow family back in 1768---John Catlow, he married Hannah Mercer from Briercliffe 8th June 1788 in Burnley and they had Betty Catlow in 1799.

Hiya Gloria

Do you think that your Catlow's may be linked to mine somewhere along the way?

Quite possibly. My John Catlow born 1768 is the son of Jonathan Catlow and Anne nee Crossley. John was christened at St Bartholomews Colne. I am struggling with the parents of Jonathan, there are three possibles on Lancashire OPC all baptised at St Bartholomews
1732/33 father Joshuae Catlow (their spelling) abode Leigh
1736 father John abode Trawden
1737 father Samuel abode Flass in Township

Hi Danny,

I'm descended from your John Catlow, who had the interestingly named children (Collingwood, Nelson).

John's daughter Mary was my ggggmother.

I can send you a whole raft of Catlows from Denton and Stockport if you're interested.

I didn't know the family originated in Colne - also, Fanny's maiden name was news to me. Thanks for the information!

Very best wishes,
Paul
