Hiya
I am trying to locate a few of my ancestors that I think ( :!: :?: ) were buried @ St Johns, cannot confirm this as the registers for burials stop at 1879.

Henry Whitehead died 1891
Rebecca Lawson died 20 October 1903
Thomas Sagar died 14 October 1872
Jacob Shepherd died 18 January 1935
Alice Shepherd died 6 April 1947

If anyone has been round the graveyard and found the gravestones I would be grateful for a rough idea of where they are. I have been once before to look around the graveyard but didn't find the above people. My Mum and Grandma went round about 25 years ago and said they had found Jacob & Alice.

I can then try and get there in the New Year and look again. Does anyone know whether the church has the burial register from 1879 and are they open to enquiries?

Thanks
Kathryn

Hi Kathryn, welcome to the forum.

When you say the records stop at 1879 - where were you looking? Was this online or at the library?
I think I have Monumental Inscriptions for Worsthorne so I'll take a look at those to see if there is anything....hope to do it before the weekend!

Hiya

I'm looking at what the Lancashire Record Office hold for Worsthorne they have Burial Registers upto 1879 but none after that. I presume there are further registers but there not held at the Record Office.

WORSTHORNE, St John the Evangelist (Whalley); Diocese of Blackburn
C 1835-1960 M 1843-1977 B 1835-1879 Orig reg PR 3114
C 1835-1854 B 1835-1854 Copy BT Microfilm DRB 2/225-226
DRB Additions
D to 1980 MI Transcript Searchroom

I have tried to look at the transcript of the MI's but I (and the staff) couldn't find them in the searchroom!

Please don't worry - this week is a busy week - I'm just trying to get some Family History work done whilst everything else is on hold for awhile, fill in a few gaps and sort my files out etc :)

Many thanks and Merry Christmas
Kathryn

If I don't manage it this week, it'll be mid January (we disappear for a few days after the big day).

If my search should turn out to be fruitless, you could try Burnley library - their holdings differ from the LRO.

The only Whiteheads on the MI's for St Johns are John and Sarah. Sarah died 1855 aged 68 and John died 1858 aged 70.

There are no Shepherds in the MI's and only one Thomas Sagar who died in 1866 aged 6. Also no Rebecca Lawson. This doesn't mean they were not buried there - just that there was no stone when the MI's were recorded in 1981.
