Thanks for those, I often look at old Burnley photos as they bring back many happy memories of my childhood and youth. I very recently celebrated my 78th Birthday and although I left Burnley in 1963 for a new life in Devon, I still regard Burnley as my home and still follow The Clarets!

Hi Gloria,

I had a closer look at the photo showing "Thrifty Stores". That shop was the Co-Op, but I can't even attempt to put a date on when it changed.

However, a couple of noticable things about the cars. Three Minis, which don't really help much. However, the 4th car is a Ford Escort Mk 1, which was first introduced in 1967. Also, the leftmost Mini (the one that's probably moving) has a modern retroreflective number plate (black lettering on a white background on the front of the car). Those were first introduced in 1967 but didn't become compulsory for new registrations until a few years later. The Escort has an old-style white-on-black plate.

So that photo was 1967 at the earliest. Unfortunately, I can't make out what the registration plates show. I've looked at the photo in the book with a magnifying glass, but the letter that would give the year is just a blur. :-(

The other photo (showing the greengrocer's shop) is a more difficult. I can't even attempt a date.

Best wishes
Dave
