Mel, I have a Francis Tickle (my 2x great grandfather) born 18/12/1852 at Sproats Row, Wollaston. Parents William Tickle and Sarah (nee Miller). The parents and firstborn (John) were living in Manchester at the time of the 1851 census but the next census I can find Francis on is 1881 - back in Manchester. I can't find any of the others after 1851, although I assume William and John were still alive in 1875 as they are both named on Francis's marriage certificate. I think Sarah died in Manchester in 1866.
I assume Francis will have been baptised, as his brother was, but I haven't found any record of it yet. Nor do I know whether there were any other children.
Please don't go to any great trouble, but if you come across anything at all that might shed some light I'd be really grateful.

I'll make a note in my book and take it with me the next time I go to Stafford.

I've just had a look at Wollaston. I have a feeling the records for Wollaston will be at Dudley and not Stafford. This is because Wollaston is nearer to Stourbridge. I'll enquire anyway as they may have duplicates at Stafford. I've just tried to email a query to Stafford asking if they have Wollaston records but I'm not sure if it went. They use the dated system of opening up a new email rather than a contact form. Microsoft doesn't always like this method and I got an 'error occurred' message. I'll see if they reply, if not will try again later in the week.

Mel, the birth was actually registered in Stourbridge as you say. I'm having troble with my Staffordhire and Derbyshire lot. They all seemed to live in places that move back and to across county lines. Please don't go to too much trouble.

I have a Dudley lot. If and when I get to the archives there I'll bear your Tickles in mind.

I think that's a different Wollaston

Did Francis have a middle name? I assume you have looked at this reference for 1871 - RG10/3991 folio 18 pg 27.

I think that would be the same Wollaston - I think Stourbridge is in Worcestershire.
There is another Wollaston in Northamptonshire.

You're right - it is the same place - I just googled it. I wonder whether it ever was in Staffordshire? He always put staffordshire as his place of birth on censuses.
Francis didn't have a middle name. I've searched ancestry for every francis with parents called william and sarah, plus every tickle/ fickle/ sickle/pickle born in Staffordshire and loads of other combinations but with no joy.
I had spotted the census entry you mention - she's on my tree as an unconnected person at the moment in case one day I can join her up. The Francis I'm looking for tho is a man, although I know they must have sometimes got people in the wrong column.

Who said I wanted a man? I already have one and that's more than enough!

On the Halstead Collection of the Photo Archives..there are a number of photos of the Redfern family which includes the daughter, Marie. She is 'the little ballerina' among others. Marie was the first cousin of my dad..their mothers were sisters. She married David Nowell (an accountant/solicitor or whatnot) and they lived in Stafford raising 5 children. Their last known address was Sandringham Road, Boswick, Stafford. We long ago lost contact, sadly.
As I did find an address for Marie among my father's papers I sent a Christmas card in November to that address. One of her sons wrote back that she had since died.
I did write back to him and gave him this website...as I thought he and his sibs may be interested. Don't know if anything came of it. But it is another 'closure' on my paternal side of the family.
