We are looking for descendants and trying to trace back relatives of our grandfather James Willie Bradshaw born 22 August 1889. He was known on all other official documention as James William but answered to Willie. He married Lucy Hilda Harrison and the couple lived in the Duke Bar area for all of their married life. Willie was the son of James Bradshaw and Susan Jane Champion, a Cornish migrant. This is what we have got so far but any help to try and make sense of it all and verify what is info. a bit flakey would be appreciated.
HenryBradshaw 1851 Census born Marsden 1785 living Back Church St nr St Peter's Church and National School Bly with his second wife Betty born 1795 Marsden with 6 children including James born 1835.
1871 Census: James b. 1835 now 36yrs living with his wife Elizabeth b 1831 living 167 Burnley Lane Head with 7 children including James b 1861 aged 9yrs. Two children included with unusual names Malachi and Elijah.
On March 5th 1881 James Bradshaw b 1861/2 married Susan Jane Champion and James Willie who was their first child was born a good few years later. The reason why may not be known, but it was known that because of the very poor living conditions experienced by the Cornish workers and thier families high levels of infertility were noted in some girls. We think Willie had a sister Mary who lived in Harle Syke with her daughter Joyce who I remember well but have lost touch with. if Joyce reads this I hope she will forgive my ignorance. It is so sad that we know so little of our much loved Grandad and his family. I do know he was shot during WW1 and am looking into his records and have visited Camborne in Cornwall where his mother and grandparents were from. There are a number of Bradshaws in the Marsden, Lane Head, Briercliffe and Haggate area I am not sure I have the right thread. hopefully some of the names given may tick a few boxes with someone reading this splurge; any advice would be appreciated. I do have some photos but it will take me a couple of days to work out how to get them onto the site. I would find it easier to organise a bus trip for the members up to the North East Coast rather than do that....and the Ark Royal has just sailed into the River Tyne today for four days!! Thanks in advance Judi
