A recipe from Blackpool
4oz butter
4oz castor sugar
4 oz flour
4 eggs
2 tsp baking powder
4 tbs raspberry jam

Beat the butter until light and creamy and then beat in the sugar. Add the sieved flour and baking powder a little at a time and alternatively with the well beaten eggs. Beat in the jam and mix well. Put into a buttered basin and steam for two hours.

In 1846 the railway line to Blackpool was opened and the first mill outing from Swinton visited the town amid great excitement, as it was the first sight of the sea for most of them.
