Google maps have uploaded their street view images for the majority of the UK. This means you can now take a virtual 'walk' in the area where your ancestors once roamed.

One of the cars used for recorded these images followed me last summer for about 3 miles. I've had a right giggle this morning following my car, we had the roof off so you can see me at one point when I turned right.

Mel, how do you get into the 'virtual walk' of an area from Google Maps? I think this may have been on the forum before but I didn't make a note of it.

Personally, I zoom into the area of interest and then drag the little orange man (left corner of the map, above the zoom) to the street, district. The circular 'shadow' below is the area that will appear in street view. (Hop this makes sense!)

Thanks, Mel! It made perfect sense and it worked. So easy when you know how.
