Post subject:  Visiting Archives - advice

I'm sure this doesn't need saying but....if you are planning a trip to the archives, make sure you check the opening hours before you go. Even if it is one that you have visited before. Due to the budget cuts, many archives have reduced their opening hours. This is certainly the case for Stoke on Trent City archives and also Calderdale/West Yorkshire archives.

I've very nearly been caught out with SoT archives recently after they drastically cut their hours. Luckily, it's on my doorstep so didn't inconvenience me but I'd hate to think I had planned a day out to find they were closed!

Thanks Mel. There is ongoing work at Preston records office at the moment so anyone going there needs to check.
